ALL INDIA SEMINAR ON ‘SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ON LEGAL FRATERNITY’

Legal Assistance Forum organized its maiden All India Seminar on ‘Social Responsibility on Legal Fraternity’ on 11th November 2005 at ISIL Auditorium, New Delhi
  Law Students Competition

As prelude to the seminar, an All India Law Students Competition was conducted. The topics that were given to be deliberated upon were
 
(1)  Balancing career ambition with social       responsibility,
(2)  Role of lawyers in providing speedy justice and
(3) Public perception about lawyers in pre and post constitutional era.

For the competition, 29 entries were received from various colleges from all over India, out of which 10 were short listed and invited to stage oral presentation on their respective papers. The Forum made arrangement for stay and food.

The selected teams made their presentation before an eminent panel of judges consisting of Hon’ble Mr. Justice D.P.Wadhwa, Former Judge of Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Mr. Justice V.A.Mohta, Former Chief Justice Orissa High Court, Dr.Usha Tandon, Assc. Prof., Faculty of Law, Delhi University and Shri K.S.Bhati, Former Registrar, Indian Law Institute

The oral presentation and more particularly the question-answer round was a thought provoking session in which the law students talked about the nuances of the legal practice and also about the social responsibility attached with the profession. The competition was organized with an intention to awaken, sensitize and encourage the young wannabe lawyers.

  Seminar
The evening session of the seminar started with homage paid and 2 minutes silence maintained in memory of Late Shri K.R.Narayanan, Former President of India who was the Founder Patron in Chief and had expired few days prior to the seminar.
Dr. Usha Tandon, Vice President, LAF delivered the welcome address to a fully packed auditorium having capacity of about 250 persons. She highlighted the achievements of the guests and welcomed each one of them individually. She also welcomed the students who came from all over the country and made sincere efforts in the competition.
