ALL INDIA LAW SEMINAR ON ‘ENSURING SOCIAL SECURITY IN A GLOBALIZED ERA: ROLE OF CORPORATE & LEGAL WORLD ’, NEW DELHI.

Mr.K.S.Bhati ,Treasurer, Legal Assistance Forum welcomed the august gathering of about 250 persons comprising of distinguished guests and students who has come from all over the country to participate in the competition.
Mr. Vijay Hansaria, President, LAF in the opening remarks said that more than a third of the world population lives under extreme conditions of poverty and deprivation. People still die out of hunger, they also die due to extreme weather condition as they not have shelter over their head and large section of people doe not have access to sanitary facilities & potable water. He invited the attention to Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) adopted at the Millennium Summit in September 2000, where 167 countries committed their nations to a new global partnership to reduce extreme poverty with a deadline of 2015. to achieve MDGs wide spread public participation is essential.
Revered guests were presented flower bouquets by Mr.Anupam Misra, Ms.Sneha Kalita and Mr.Jayesh.K.U, Executive members of the Forum.
 
Hon’ble Dr. Justice Shivraj V. Patil, the then Member National Human Rights Commission and Patron of Legal Assistance Forum in his inspiring address reminded the legal fraternity about social responsibility. He said “rich men pays; poor people prays, but the prayers can take you to those heights where payment cannot”.
Mr. Mahendra Mohan Gupta, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Jagran Prakashan Ltd., in his address, necessitated the need for a corporate community and legal system that is more sensitive towards the needy. Mr. Gupta pointed out that momentous leap of the sensex can be translated into meaningful socio economic welfare only by a pragmatic shift in the perspective of the corporate and legal world, the beacons of society.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice P.V.Reddi, former Judge, Supreme Court of India who chaired the panel of judges for the All India Law Students Competition, summarized the proceedings of morning session and opined that the participants have done justice to the topics selected by them. He observed that the knowledge gained by the participants while preparing the papers and during the presentation will go a long way in deciding their goals in professional life. Justice Reddi then declared the following result of the All India Law Students Competition:

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Altamas Kabir, Judge, Supreme Court of India, in his presidential address illustrated the relevance of corporate social responsibility at the times of liberalization, privatization and globalization. He expressed concern over the widening gap between haves and have nots and stressed the need for coordinated efforts from different strata of the society to cure the malady. The Hon’ble Judge reiterated that legal fraternity has a prominent role in ensuring equitable distribution of resources among the mankind as justice administration system is an effective tool in creating a level playing field. He appreciated efforts of the Forum in conscientising the new entrants to the legal arena about their responsibility towards oppressed and marginalized wished the forum and entire participants great success.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Altamas Kabir, Judge, Supreme Court of India distributed the prizes. The first prize winner received mementos, certificates and cash prize of Rs.10000/-, the first runners up received certificates and cash prize of Rs.5000/- while the second runners up received certificate and cash prize of Rs.3000/-. Participation certificate were given to all the participating teams. 

Ms. Neeti Uppal & Ms. Nevadita Malik of the winning team, Faculty of law Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak   made their winning presentation and thanked Legal Assistance Forum for the opportunity given to them in the seminar. 

Ms. Ritu Bharadwaj, Joint Secretary, Legal Assistance Forum, delivered the vote of thanks. She assured the august gathering that the Forum would make all possible endeavors to fulfill its mission to resolve various socio-legal problems of the poor and underprivileged section of the society and promote legal awareness nationwide. Ms. Bharadwaj particularly thanked Justice Kabir and Mr. Gupta for their inspiring presence and addresses.    

               The seminar ended with High Tea.
